Following our weekend on Koh Samet, G&M had to work and had a busy week. So, Andrew and I went up to Chiang Mai for a few days, where we had a delightful time.
We flew to Chiang Mai on Monday, and had the afternoon and evening to explore. We saw a couple temples:
Then we walked around Chiang Mai for a while, enjoying the cooler weather, and spent much of the evening browsing the Night Bazaar, a large market that is open every night. We also had dinner at the Bazaar, where we had a delicious dragon fruit smoothie:
Our first full day, we rented a motorbike and took it up a nearby mountain. Our first stop was to hike near a waterfall:
Stop #2 was at a large palace with many steps:
The palace also had beautiful gardens:
We also saw a number of beautiful views:
We had so much fun riding the motorbike. Andrew even let me drive a little!
Our second full day, we had arranged for guided elephant trek. Our guide picked us up from our guesthouse in the morning and drove us to the Thai Elephant Conservation Center:
In the morning, we were able to watch the elephants have a bath:
We also attended an elephant show where they demonstrated many skills, including painting! How many animals do you know that can paint a self portrait?
There were also frequent opportunities to feed the elephants. Elephants eat 250 kilos of food and drink 150 liters of water every day.
Next was the elephant ride through the jungle:
This was followed by lunch (where we ate an entire pineapple between the two of us...), and then a series of visits to other locations. The first stop was to the elephant dung paper factory:
We also stopped at the elephant hospital and elephant nursery:
We had a great day with the elephants and a wonderful trip to Chiang Mai.
Elephant selfies! That's awesome!
