A Garden Walk & Some Hard Work

Last Sunday, Andrew and I had a relaxing afternoon: we took a walk at Meijer Gardens.  We spent much of our time enjoying the newly opened Japanese Gardens:

We'd highly recommend visiting these gardens!  We found some other nice places to walk, too:

Yesterday and today, we re-roofed our shed.  This included me learning how to re-roof.  Our shed was in some serious need of TLC, and while it still need a fresh coat of paint, replacing the entire roof and all the trim these past two days has gone a long ways in improving our poor shed.  We started by doing some demolition work:

Andrew instructed me to take off all the trim, but to make sure I kept straight where each piece came from so we could use them as templates in the rebuilding process:

By the end of day one, we had some of the trim and all of the new plywood nailed in:

Day 2 (Happy 4th of July!), we made multiple trips the hardware stores (I'll leave out the specific number...), finished installing the trim, laid the roof felt, installed drip edge, nailed down new shingles, and put new hinges on the doors:

Even though it was a lot of hard labor, we're really proud of the work we've done, and honestly, we laughed often and had fun together.  It's so rare with our schedules to get multiple days of just being together, and we worked really well as a team on this project.  It was a very good way to spend our holiday: together.
