Isle of Skye

Andrew and I spent this past weekend on the beautiful Isle of Skye.  Following a very rainy travel day on Friday, we were very fortunate to have two dry days, and to even have sun almost all day on Saturday.  It's late enough in the fall that the daylight is very limited now, and the sun never gets terribly high in the sky.  

We stayed with Alistair and Flora, our extended relatives.  They were the most wonderful hosts, taking us around the north end of the island and sharing with us history and stories.

Dunvegan Castle was closed to the public for the season, but Alistair knew where we could still get a decent view:

Sunday we opted to go to the evening service since daylight is so limited.  In the morning/early afternoon, Alistair took us on a lovely hike:

He took us  to a beach where the sand is black - it's not dirty - it's black:

We also stopped at Dun Beag Broch on the way home:

Following a delicious Sunday dinner of soup, roast beef, roasted potatoes & turnips, steamed carrots and cabbage, yorkshire pudding, and meringue with whipped cream and raspberries, Andrew and I went for a walk around Struan until the sun set:

We had a lovely visit with Alistair and Flora:

Monday we had smooth travels home.  With nearly two hours in Kyle of Lochalsh, we walked across the Skye Bridge:

Two days was not nearly enough time on this beautiful island and we are already hoping to return some day.
