Celebrating Four Years

It's been a while since I've written, mostly because we haven't done anything all that exciting lately. We've mostly worked and settled into our new home, schedules, and routines.

However, June 16 marked four years of marriage, so this holiday weekend, we took the opportunity to get away just the two of us to celebrate another wonderful year together.

We drove up to Traverse City, where The Cherry Festival was just beginning.  Traverse City is a city of 90,000 people, and there are about 1 million that come to The Cherry Festival.  We stayed long enough to see an air show by the Blue Angels, which was worth it:

After a couple hours, the crowds and traffic were enough such that we gratefully escaped to the Old Mission Peninsula to have a snack and a glass of wine while overlooking the vineyards and bay, as well as a walk through the lavender fields.

The following day, we took a day trip to South Manitou Island, which was absolutely beautiful.  The ferry ride over provided some nice views, including Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore:

On the island, we hiked 9 miles and took in some breathtaking views on this remote, undeveloped island.

Today we wish America a happy birthday, tomorrow we go back to work, and each day forward we will gratefully discover what the Lord has in store for us in the year to come.
